Engine trial
In to the trial frame goes the engine.
This is the most successful way to run the engine in and check all systems are working correctly.
Great time to run in all new components ie: cam rings ect.
The motor started perfectly all running in procedures completed.
Pressure test cooling system all A1 check all fluids ect.
All is well until the pool of oil under the flywheel cover.
We all know what this means. Most of the time it is a leaking rear main.
Sure enough that's what it was.
OUT WITH THE ENGINE AND FIND OUT WHY.
The photo on the right shows the problem well. Some of the sealer had leaked onto the crank and dried.
Those of you with an eye for detail will notice that this engine has been balanced.

Engine assembly
Engine assembly under way there will be some rare nos parts on this engine.
When painting I used an engine paint frame on the inlet manifold.
I have it by good authority that a paint frame was used on these engines.
I achieved a decent result from this technique.
The over spray onto the inlet manifold was very similar to the original.
I used steel strips and rare earth magnets to secure the masking.

HQ rocker gear
All rocker gear is still available for Holden. The push rods are NLA.
The inlet manifold gaskets are becoming difficult to if you are chasing the correct rubber front and rear seals.

HQ water pump single outlet.
Single outlet water pumps are getting quite difficult to find now.We have been lucky and have found one for the gts and one for the ss.
Note the blanking on the pump where the earlier 253 had twin outlets.

HQ GTS Engine back from reconditioning.
This was a great find for this GTS project. As the original engine is missing this one is as close to being correct as possible.
The car is a 10/1973 and the engine is a 10 J 3 meaning a 10th of September 1973.
4 weeks before the car being assembled This is about as close as we can get.
